Personal Favourites
It's a tough one, but here are my ten personal favourites (I think!) from my collection, in no particular order...
Lee Evans
Lee is my all time favourite stand-up comic, and I've seen him live several times now and always try to meet him afterwards. He's such a nice down-to-earth person too. If you're a fan and haven't read his autobiography you should, it's sad, but really good. He makes the list as I love him, and each autograph was obtained in person so reminds me of how happy I was at the time!
Rhys Darby
Rhys makes the list as he's hilarious, and stars in one of my favourite shows, Flight of the Conchords. I love Murray, but I love Rhys as a stand-up too. Saw him live for the first time in 2012 and wasn't disappointed. I'll definitely be aiming to see him again the next time he tours the UK.
Sir Norman Wisdom OBE
This is a special one to me as I grew up watching Norman's movies, and I still enjoy them. I have a box set of them on dvd (my favourite film is 'Follow a Star). It is also really special to me as Sir Norman is no longer with us, I was really upset when he died, so it's nice to have a little something from him which I'll certainly treasure.
Karl Pilkington
This one makes the list mainly due to the fact that Karl wrote me a message back in reference to a few things that I had said in my letter on the cardboard I had included to prevent the envelope bending. It was an awesome surprise, and something you rarely see, but getting a note back makes a success so much better! It shows that they actually genuinely read your letter too which is great. Plus I'm a big fan of Karl's, so he's a very welcome addition to my collection!
Rowan Atkinson
This one makes my favourites list as I feel pretty lucky to have it. I've read about what difficulty people seem to have to obtain an authentic autograph from Rowan through the mail, it seems like 99% of the time people just get pre-prints, so I'm really happy to have received this from an e-mail to his agent about 5 years ago!
Kermit the Frog/Steve Whitmire
As a huge Muppets fan, I love this one, particularly since Kermit is my favourite. It took two attempts to get this, after an RTS at one address, I resent it to another, and was finally rewarded with this awesome large signed photo.
Rob Steen
This one has to make my favourites as it's a bit different! It's an original sketch from illustrator Rob Steen (the artist behind Ricky Gervais' 'Flanimals' series of books). I just think it's great that he was kind enough to do an original drawing for me.
Danny Wallace
I met Danny at a talk/book signing he did in Liverpool, and it was great to meet him in person. He's the author of my all-time favourite book, Yes Man, so this is a favourite of mine. He's very funny, and seemed like a really nice guy in person too. I also gave him a little drawing, hence the inscription.
Jacqueline Wilson
I loved Jacqueline's books growing up, I had quite a collection. This autograph makes my favourites as she added a note saying she 'loved my picture of Garnet' that I had drawn (a character from my favourite book of hers), and that she hoped I'd 'get to be an illustrator when I grow up', which I'm currently doing freelance!
Carey Mulligan
'Shame' has become one of my favourite films of 2012 (well, I first saw it this year) and I love the image of Carey singing 'New York, New York' in the bar, so this success makes the list because I'm just really happy to have such a lovely shot from the film signed by one of the main stars herself. Especially a British actress who is clearly destined for really big things.
Ronnie O'Sullivan
Although there's nothing special about this one really, and I just got it from an e-mail to Ronnie's management, it's still a favourite as I'm a big fan and I'm really glad to have him in my collection.
Paul Rudd
This marks my first ever VV success, and what a success! I wrote to Paul via a play he was doing in the US, and just 9 days after posting my letter, I received my photos back signed in my SAE. I'm a huge Friends fan, and thought he was great as Mike, but I've loved all the movies I've seen him in too, he's a great actor, and very funny!
